How to Choose a Size
A child sits well when their feet rest flat on the floor, their knees bend at about 90° and their forearms rest on the table without lifting their shoulders. Too high and their feet dangle; too low and they hunch. Our tables and chairs follow BS EN 1729, the European standard that matches seat and table heights to children’s heights. Find each child’s size mark in the chart below, then choose the chair and table with the same mark.

How to Check the Fit
- Feet flat on the floor, knees bent to about a right angle.
- Thighs level with the seat, back against the backrest.
- Tabletop a few centimetres below the elbows when the arms hang down.
- Chair and table in the same size mark.
Ages are a starting point. Height is the better guide: a tall two-year-old may already fit C1.
Educator Furniture
- Teacher chairs: seat heights of 43 to 46 cm.
- Low teacher chairs: an adult seat at a low height, for working at children's tables.
- Teacher tables: 71 cm or 76 cm high.

Teacher Furniture
Our teacher chairs have seat heights from 43 to 46 cm and a supportive backrest. Low teacher chairs put educators at children’s eye level for story time, art and floor play, without kneeling or bending.
Teacher tables come in 71 cm and 76 cm heights, in a range of top sizes and shapes, for planning, meetings and one-on-one work.
Why Size Matters
Furniture at the right height is easier on growing bodies and easier to learn at.
- Posture.
At the right size, a child sits with hips, knees and ankles at about 90°: thighs level, feet flat, elbows at table height. Their back stays upright without effort.
- Focus.
A child who isn’t perching, reaching or swinging their legs fidgets less and stays with an activity for longer.
- Healthy habits.
Sitting well every day, at every age, builds habits that carry into school.
- Independence.
When a chair is their size, children climb on and off it by themselves and pull themselves in to the table without help.

Sizing Questions
What height should a child's chair be?
High enough for the child's feet to rest flat on the floor with knees bent to about a right angle. As a guide: 21 cm for 2 to 3 year olds (size C0), 26 cm for 3 to 4 year olds (C1) and 31 cm for 4 to 6 year olds (C2). The child's height is a better guide than age.
What height table does a 2 year old need?
Most 2 to 3 year olds suit size C0: a 40 cm table with a 21 cm chair. Younger toddlers from 1 to 2 usually fit C02: a 36 cm table with a 17 cm chair.
What height table and chair for preschool children?
For 3 to 4 year olds, size C1: a 46 cm table with a 26 cm chair. For 4 to 6 year olds, size C2: a 53 cm table with a 31 cm chair.
What is BS EN 1729?
BS EN 1729 is the European standard for chairs and tables in educational settings. It sets size marks that match seat and table heights to children's heights, and tests furniture for strength, stability and durability. Our chairs and tables follow it.
Which size should I choose for a mixed-age room?
Choose most tables and chairs in the size that fits the majority of the group, then add a few in the size above or below. Our Elegance tables come with different leg heights, so a tabletop can suit the room you put it in.
